What’s New in Issaquah?

Posted by Kathleen Cragun No Comments »

Today looked like an almost spring day. It was warmer and even sunshiny in the morning, so we drove around to see what was new and interesting in Issaquah. These are a few of our findings.

Cute houses on 11th Ave NE, Vista Park

Timber Ridge in Talus

If You Were Going To Give A Speech, What Would You Talk About?

Posted by Larry Cragun No Comments »

To be more specific, if you were speaking to a large group of professionals, engineer types, about real estate and mortgages, what topics would you cover?

That is my challenge next week. Now I have my thoughts prepared, but it hit me that I might be wiser to have your input. Who knows, I might tear my notes up and use what you suggest.

FYI, I have considered discussing Blue Fin, Zorro, the Skyhook Theory, reasons to sell your home yourself, or with a discount realtor. I have considered taking on the bubble bloggers, those 20 somethings that are waiting for the market to crash so they can buy and flip.

I do think I need your help.HELP!

Lookin’ a Lot Like Christmas in Issaquah

Posted by Kathleen Cragun 1 Comment »

It is not just looking like Christmas,  but the smells and tastes of the holidays abound all around the town. Lights, Parties, Action, Food, Fun.

Downtown Issaquah

Merchants in downtown have a contest for the best storefront display.  What is your vote?

A very clever window by Dr Brown

Cougar Mountain Zoo has their own Christmas Celebration - The Reindeer Festival. Did you know their Reindeer make house calls? Book a reindeer for your party. www.cougarmountainzoo.org

Santa is at the Zoo for kids to visit and have photos with. I missed him, I guess he had to discipline a reindeer! He sure has a nice chair.

Hope you enjoy your holiday season.

A Good General Never Lets Down His Troops

Posted by Larry Cragun No Comments »

Today the Seattle Times tells the story of an Issaquah family, friends of ours. CaringBridge.org provides a way for the family to keep us all posted on the day to day fight for life of little Claire Calhoun. Todays Caring Bridge update links us to the Story of Claire and her brother Sam.

First some background from the Calhouns: When Claire was about 6 weeks old we had to take her to the ER because she was having a hard time breathing and was looking very pale. When she got there, Claire “coded” and doctors frantically tried to figure out what was wrong. First, they thought she had a bad heart, then internal bleeding, finally, they realized that her problem was her bone marrow/blood. She had very little of it. A couple of hospitals and ambulance rides later we ended up in the infant ICU at Children’s Hospital. After many tests and several transfusions they diagnosed Claire with a very rare condition called Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA). Basically, she doesn’t create her own red blood cells.

Todays update links to the Seattle Times article about Sam, Claires 9 year old brother. A must read about Sam and the Calhoun family.

At 9 years old, Sam Calhoun has come to understand this: sometimes, bad things just happen is how the article begins….

Besides, a good general never lets down his troops is how it ends….

This is a sweet story, I highly recommend you read it.

If you would like to contribute to the fund setup to help Claire’s Bone Marrow Transplant, you can do so by going into any branch of Wells Fargo Bank and mentioning you would like to donate to the “Claire Calhoun Medical Fund”. Otherwise, you may contact David Cutler at dcutler@marcusmillichap.com… They Thank You.

Rain Doesn’t Wash Out Salmon Days

Posted by Kathleen Cragun 1 Comment »

Best Bets, Get your honey to drop you off at the Kiss ‘n Ride - Issaquah Highlands Park and Ride. Then take the yellow buses courtesy of Chipotle (plus a buck) to downtown Issaquah.

‘007 Spawn. Just Spawn, Issaquah’s theme for 2007 Salmon Days was a huge success, at least by my observation. The rain did dampen my enthusiasm for jumping up early and getting to the parade so by the time I got there this was the kind of view I got!

Not to worry, I still had a great time perusing the Artists in Action, live music and stuffing myself with smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, corn on the cob and Berringer Farm’s raspberry shortcake.

Looked like a record crowd to me.

Have your picture taken with a bald eagle. Or perhaps a hawk.

Tons of fun for kids, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Would you like to buy a sculpture of Sleestack?

Artist in Action:

This one invites everyone to be an artist.

Steve Scheibe shows how it is done. See more at www.visibleinvisible.com. Steve creates many custom things for home decor.

Medicine Dog Art and Drum. Lori Boess, a gifted artist, teacher and healer makes drums, rattles, necklaces, pouches and more. She will also teach these skills. 360-280-2117. She had some magnificent drums, the photos of which didn’t turn out.

New to Issaquah Salmon Days is the booth of our sister city Chefchaouen Morocco - Moroccan Experience.

Live Salmon seemed to be the only thing in short supply the day I was there. Maybe they were all spawned out. That is what we told them to do, isn’t it. Spawn. Just Spawn! Check out the pictures of Salmon from Salmon Days 2006 in our archives.

Awesome New Playground Equipment at Issaquah’s Memorial Park

Posted by Larry Cragun No Comments »

As I was walking around downtown Issaquah last Saturday I spied this playground. I think, I will have to round up some grandchildren and bring them here. If I was younger I would like to try that big red contraption, but I’m afraid it might eat me!

Memorial Park Playground

Memorial Field is packed with people during major events such as Salmon Days and the town 4th of July fun. It is the ending place for all our town’s parades. Now it is usually more quiet at least until I bring the grandchildren. They are a rowdy bunch!

Kathleen Wants Me To Be Serious On The Issaquah Blog. So I Am? Am I? I Am. Yes - I Am.

Posted by beta No Comments »

Issaquah, Washington is a very ecclectic place to live. We have people from all over the globe living here. We have former Cowboys from Texas. We have people who prefer unique modes of travel. (Note the mode of travel above)

Maybe it is because of Microsoft.

Maybe it’s because we have done such a good job of promoting Issaquah on our blog. Maybe it’s because we have the nations best Chamber Of Commerce, which is a fact.

Maybe its because we have more banks per capita than in city west of Chicago. Maybe its because we have more boaters, horses, skiiers, snow mobiles, cats, dogs, jet skis, and X Boxes per capita than any city in the US. This implies we are the most fun people in the US. We are.

PS: A plug for the local Chamber. If you are a representative of a business, an owner, manager, or caring employee, I can attest to the seriousness the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce places on helping all of its members in promoting their companies. Each Chamber employee gets it when it comes to supporting its members. It seems as if every week they are providing meaningful opportunities, even for the newbies like we were last year. We are proud to have Rob Tamaela who is both the King of The Chamber this year and an excellent mortgage broker as an advertiser on this site. A link to his website is on the upper right side of the blog.

It is Time for the Issaquah Highlands Garage Sale Again! June 23 Sat 9am-4pm

Posted by Larry Cragun No Comments »

This year you had better go early. It has been advertised in the Seattle Times, the Issaquah Press and on Craig’s list, so if you want the best pickings at Issaquah Highlands Garage Sale the early birds may get the worms. This is a fun event. Last year we invited friends and family to it and also told them to stop by our house and get a hamburger or a hotdog. We planned on making this an annual event but this year other things intervened. Those who came last year found some great stuff, stainless steel cook ware, baby strollers and Gap baby clothes at bargain prices. Every year there are more houses in the Highlands so maybe even more good stuff!
