Many people have been asking us when is 24 Hour Fitness going to open. They thought we knew because of this blog.

We attended a Chamber of Commerce Luncheon and were lucky enough to win a door prize from 24 Hour Fitness. It included a months free membership. We planned on checking it out anyway but because of the month free we gave it a lot more attention!
This is a very convenient location. We met with Adam, a personal trainer, who spent time with us giving tips and exercises to get our out of shape bodies back in shape. He is much nicer than Jillian on The Biggest Loser!
We obviously aren’t physical fitness experts but we recognize quality when we see it.
These are some of the features:
-
Basketball court
-
Lots of superior cardio and strength machines
-
also free weights and spacious floor space for exercise
-
Pool, Suana, Steam Room
-
Upscale Dressing Rooms with nice showers, even good smelling soap.
-
Cycling Room
-
Large Rooms for Aerobic classes, etc.
-
Certified Personal Trainers
-
Lockers in the dressing rooms (bring your own key) AND outside of the dressing rooms (locks where you use your own password0
-
Cushy floors – to me that is important (if I crash it won’t hurt so bad)
-
Kids play area while you are working out
-
Parking garage under the building – you don’t get wet because there is an entrance from there. PLEASE USE THIS AS THE NEIGHBORING MERCHANTS NEED PARKING TOO.
-
24 Hr. is on the second floor, there are stairs AND elevators, elevators are nice when your body has given its all and you just want to make it to the car.
Try it out. We think it is going to be very popular.

Going to the dentist is one of my least favorite things to do. It’s the drilling and the needles isn’t it? It starts in your childhood. My mother would have to dragged me screaming and yelling down the street. This won’t happen if you bring your kids to Highlands Kids Dentistry. They use lasers instead. I knew their must be a better way. Highlands Kids Dentistry recently opened in the Starpoint building in Issaquah Highlands.
As you walk in the door you know it is a special place. Their office is beautiful and kid friendly but not kiddish. There is a little house that kids can explore and put in a token for something out of a “gum ball machine” lookalike. It’s not gum though, not at a dentist office!
Dr. Shadi Araghi is a Certified Pediatric Dentist. Her calm and friendly manner will put kids at ease.

You may want to come in just to see the door above. The tree, in the glass, gradually changes through a variety of colors. It is not just dentistry that is state of the art in this office.
Highlands Kids Dentistry is located at 2520 NE Park Dr Suite C, Issaquah WA 98029 425-996-0457 www.highlandskidsdentistry.com

If you havn’t tried these places, they are both unique. One is fairly new. One has been around a long time and continues to delight the public with their displays that change with the seasons.

Gemini Fish Market, stop by and get something different for dinner.
Gemini Fish Market makes it so we don’t have to drive to Seattle for a market such as this. It is located at 1410 NW Gilman Blvd, Issaquah WA 98027. 425-961-0741 You can get fish and flowers just a few steps away from each other. They are on Twitter, twitter.com/geminifish, and Facebook. email is freshseafood@geminifish.com .
Countryside Floral is not far away. 1420 NW Gilman Blvd Ste 1, Issaquah, WA 98027 425-296-0494
Both are back off of the main front of Gilman. A tree outside of Countryside is always decked out and delightful, with a hint of things inside.

Whenever I go to QFC, I always drive by this tree. Best dressed tree in Issaquah!

The best bank in Issaquah just became a bit better. We always gave them top ranking in cutomer service and friendliness but now the new remodel, at the Gilman branch, makes the interiors fresh, bright and cheery. Customers, Key people and Mayor Ava Frisinger participated in the evening’s celebration.

Sandy Collins, Mayor Ava Frisinger and Jim Sheaffer present a BIG check to Issaquah Valley Community Services.

Maureen McCarry and husband, Tom Knollmann participated in the event
Congratulations to Maureen for winning her bid for re-election to the City Council!
And congratulations to Key Bank on their new environment. It will be nice for our favorite Key people, Sandy, Jim, Nancy, Betty and Lynn and for us, their customers.

2/9/10: We just added Agave to Our Blog Network: CLick here:
I posted an article about the Agave restaurant in Issaquah Highlands. At the time, I had not tried it yet, but now I have. I give it a big thumbs up. The link to that article is below.
http://issaquah.neighborhoodsundressed.com/2009/09/25/have-you-tried-agave-concina-tequilas-yet/
I am not a professional restaurant reviewer, just an Issaquah citizen who likes good food. Agave is not your run of the mill Mexican Restaurant. The things we tried were delicious, I would like to have tried more but it is hard on the waistline. My choice was Enchiladas Verdes, with grilled asparagus, garlic spinach, roasted wild mushrooms, crema blanca, salsa verde, cotija. I loved the grilled asparagus and would go back just for that. Their sauces are a cut above the rest, very tasty. Even the rice and beans were just a little different. I hear the Sweet Potatoe Fries are good, I resisted for caloric reasons. We also had the Guava Flan.
We had a comment on the blog, folks that were upset that Agave charged for Chips and Salsa. This was because of (bad) advice from a business consultant and is no longer the case. Chips and Salsa are FREE when you are seated for your meal.

Pictured above at the Highlands Green Halloween last Saturday are some of the Agave staff. Left to right are Ricardo, Julian (owner), Armando, and Angel. Our service was friendly and timely. We can’t tell you about the tequila. You will have to find out for yourself.
Let us know how you like Agave.
Agave Cocina & Tequilas is at 1048 Park Street, Issaquah Highlands, WA 98029 425-369-9829

All year long as I drove along West Lake Sam, I noticed a very different house going up. I used to live across the street so I know the neighborhood well. Eventually, a large sign went up with a picture of the completed house and some info. It was called Zero Energy Idea House. It is now completed, I was hoping that there would be tours and those tours are now happening. A van will take you to the house from Vasa Park. 3560 W. Lake Sammamish Pkwy SE. Bellevue. The house is at Bass Cove. A van is no longer available. The house is a 804 W Lk. Sammamish Pkwy, Bellevue, WA 98008. Call 425-427-1300 for more info.
Tours are Saturdays and Sundays Oct 17, 18, 24, 25, 31, and Nov1, 7, & 8 10 AM to 4 PM

Notice the vegetation on the roof and the helixwind and solar panels. The vegetated roof helps keep the home cool in the summer and warm in the winter and also reduces storm water runoff. The house is built of SIPS, structural insulated panels. It is fast and there is no waste.
The home has in floor radiant heat, unusual cabinetry and glass features. The garage is full of information and samples on all the products used. The appliances are Miele, my favorite was a steamer oven where you could steam 3 different foods at a time.

The powder room has a Glassworks sink and counter made from recycled glass that is to die for.
There is a very informative website on all the products and how it was built: www.zeroenergyideahouse.com

The Contrator was Shirey Contracting Inc www.shireycontracting.com (in Issaquah)

Agave Cocina and Tequilas opened late July in Issaquah Highlands. Agave is a complete redo of Marcellas from the concept to the menu. As you step inside, you would not recognize this restaurant as having once been Marcellas. The interiors have been completely redone. Even the strange noise problems that once existed are gone.
Julian Ramos is the owner and very graciously welcomes and serves his patrons. Agave as the menu states “serves contemporary Mexican Food. Hand-crafted using fresh, natural ingredients, no preservatives, trans fats or lard. Sustainable seafood, free-range, hormone-free chicken & beef. Organic eggs, rice & beans.”
Best of all it is a fun place, especially on a warm fall evening. The outside courtyard beckons. We might just have a few more days to enjoy this good weather at lunch or dinner on Agave’s courtyard.

I have not eaten at Agave yet, but I certainly intend to. Julian said one of his favorites is Echiladas Verdas, grilled asparagus, garlic spinach, roasted wild mushrooms, crema blanca, salsa verde, cotija. The menu has many choices of appetizers, tacos, salads, buritos, and special entrees. Should I have the Grilled Natural Flank Steak, grilled flank steak asada, crispy red potatos, grilled asparagus, salsa Mexicana, frizzled onions with warm tortillas? OR maybe Crispy Halibut tacos with lemon scallion aioli, and cilantro-jicama slaw. They also have sweet potatoe fries!
Tonight it is sunny, still warm. It would be a good night, don’t you think? YES, I have talked myself into it………and then there is Passion Fruit Flan.
I will write more about Agave on www.issaquahhighlandsundressed.com after I try it out.

Do you know someone who’s child has autism? I do. In fact, I know more than a few. One family I know has two children with autism.
At the Lakeside Center for Autism I learned that 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with this problem. It seems to be everywhere. Lakeside has a very impressive facility to help children with autism. They offer Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Social Groups and Lakeside Academy Preschool. They have many methods and approaches as not just one approach works for everbody. To find out more, go to www.lakesideautism.com . The Center is located at 1871 NW Gilman Blvd. Suite 2, Issaquah, WA 98027. It is right across from the Hilton Garden Inn.
The Chamber of Commerce recently had a ribbon cutting ceremony welcoming Lakeside Center to the Issaquah community and the Chamber. To see the ribbon cutting with our mayor, Ava Frisinger, Dan Stachelski. Issaquah’s Queen, friends and family, and other chamber members CLICK the photo. The party provided a glimpse of the facility as well as tasty food.

The Issaquah City Council will soon be determining the future of the I-90 Undercrossing on Gilman Blvd. There is a meeting scheduled for August 17th Monday 7:30 PM at the City Hall South – Council Chambers, 135 E Sunset Way, Issaquah, WA 98027. If you can’t attend please email the City Council members as to your views. We are encouraging a vote YES because we agree with the need to reduce congestion that hurts our local businesses and even ourselves when we want to venture out on I-90, Front Street or Gilman Blvd.
Issaquah Chamber of Commerce gives their reasons for support of the project.
1. Current congestion at two existing crossings of I-90 inhibits traffic, and as a result local businesses are hurt when customers stay away from Issaquah. Many existing businesses find that current infrastructure is hurting their opperations.
2. Improved road infrastructure will make it easier to encourage new businesses and residents to move to Issaquah.
3. Current congestion levels result in increased pollution as more vehicles idle in heavy traffic.
4. Environmental review of project has been completed by the City, and there is no impact on protected wetlands.
5. Significant funding and design work for this project have been secured/completed.
Here are the email addresses of our City Council members. It will be even better if you can attend the meeting.

Do you think the Issaquah community is excited about the new Overlake Clinics opening in Issaquah?

Entrance to Overlake Clinics
Overlake Medical Center Issaquah held an Open House Celebration Thursday night to allow folks to get a preview of the facility. The show of support was overwhelming. People poured into the Overlake Center by the hundreds. Overlake Medical Center knows how to have a party. They had a free picnic dinner and all kinds of giveaways. Kids could enjoy a climbing wall, pitching cage, and even a speed pitching machine. Jeff Nelson, a former Mariner and NY Yankee, was there to sign autographs for fans. Jeff was an all time Mariner record holder for most games pitched.
Included in the facility are 24 Hour Urgent Care Clinic, Primary Care, Breast Health Screening Center, Women’s Clinic, and more. 5708 E Lake Sammamish Pkwy SE, north of Fred Myer. www.overlakehospital.org/issaquah
Click on the photo for more pictures of Issaquahs participation in the event.

We are sure Overlake clinics will enjoy great success.

YEP, even real estate agents and mortgage professionals (blog writers too) deserve a vacation. Kathleen and I drove a great trip to Idaho and Utah and back to our beautiful Issaquah area. It seems the common complaint we received was about the weather we sent South and East. The mountains and valleys were green thanks to the Seattle Rain that missed us and has hit the warm belts of Utah and Idaho. Oh well, we hear you were glad to get a little of their sunny weather.
AND HOW ABOUT THOSE GOATS? WHAT GOATS? Two heards of goats are about to attack the overgrowth in Issaquah Highlands. Click here for more on the goats, come take a peak and a photo for us. Lar
PS: You won’t be allowed to get close to enough to get a photo like this one of cupcake seen on Flickr and by 2-Dog-Farm

And for those of you who like the farming and animal thing, don’t forget our network blog: Issaquah Grange Undressed.

Trying to save money on groceries? Have you been to Champion Grocery Outlet? It is in an off the beaten path place. 1590 NW Maple Street, Issaquah WA 98027 425-369-3173. There are many organic products. They buy large quantities of surplus non-perishable foods and repackage it into smaller portions and can save you a lot of money. I was particularly impressed with the bags of spices, both in scope and in prices. One dollar a bag! The place isn’t fancy but is clean, well organized and the owners are very friendly and knowledgable. If you don’t see what you are looking for, ask.

Spices from around the world for $1.00 a bag at Champion Grocery Outlet
Champion has many products that are Gluten free, which can be hard to find. They also have many products that Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and PCC have but priced much less. They do not have milk, eggs and frozen items.

Wild Mushroom Sauce, want to try it?
Store Hours are a little different: Wed-Sat 9:00am to 6:00pm.

A brand new building is the new home for Proliance Orthopedic Sports Medicine and for Proliance Sports Therapy and Rehab of Issaquah. It houses 14 doctors offices and 8 PA’s. Day surgery is available and the therapy and rehab offered at that division are excellent, as I can attest to personally. I have also been a patient of Dr. Chi and have both to thank for pain-free healthy feet again. I now know I need a little maintainance on my body. It pays to do the right exercises! Not that I want to go back but if I do, this would be a choice facilty to go to.

Entrance to Proliance Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Proliance is nestled in trees with mountain views

510 8th Ave NE, off Highlands Drive in Issaquah Highlands
The facility is now open and a welcome addition to Issaquah Highlands.
