Shadowlands at Village Theatre in Issaquah only through Feb 25

C.S. Lewis’s “Shadowlands” is another not to be missed production. I have never been to a production by Village Theatre that wasn’t well done. Shadowlands, I thought would be difficult to be effective as a stage play, but I was wrong. This is a personal story about a segment in Lewis’s life. Unexpected events jolted him out of being a confirmed bachelor and he was married at age 57 to Joy Gresham. It isn’t your usual romance and it was short lived because of Joy’s terminal illness. It deals with the journey this took him on and all he learned from it. There is laughter, pain, searching, bewilderment, and all the possible human drama involved.

The set designs were creative and appropriate. This theatre is a master of all the set design’s they have attempted. In spite of the difficulty of the story it is not a depressing one, but is triumphant as only C.S. Lewis can be.
